To help create a society where mentally challenged can live in harmony with fellow beings, fully supported and understood.

 

GOAL/MISSION

To create facilities for optimum quality of life, for mentally challenged children by way of early detection, special education and creating awareness among parents and society.

 

ACTIVITIES

Trust runs the following institutions for the welfare of mentally challenged children.

  • Disha School of Special Education - Education & Training of mentally challenged children within the age group of 5-18 years, with all facilities under one roof.

  •  Disha Life skill Training Centre – For mentally challenged children who are 18 years and above. Provides vocational training in sheltered workshop. Also teaches other life skills like, craft, communication skills, sex education and sports activities.

  • Disha Early Intervention Clinic – For   early detection of developmental disabilities in children and to provide guidance and counseling to the parents for the optimum development of the children. It caters to the needs of the children up to 5 years of age.

  • Meerut Institute of Special Education – It provides training to special educators to teach mentally challenged children. It runs a two years diploma course “Diploma in Special Education for Mentally Retarded” (D. Ed Special Education MR). It plans to start a one years course of B. Ed Special Education  MR.

  • Trust also arranges Awareness camps, seminars and workshops to create awareness about Mental Retardation for the benefit of parents, professionals, teachers & public at large.

 

OBJECTIVES OF THE TRUST

 The Main objectives of the Trust are given as under:-

  • To establish a comprehensive rehabilitation centre in Meerut  for spastics & handicapped children where all the special needs of such children can be fulfilled under one roof.

  • To educate parents & families for better acceptance and care of their handicapped children at the same time prepare them for better parenting.

  • To create awareness in the society on special needs of handicapped children through seminars, group discussions, camps, literature and film shows etc. with an aim of bringing their children into the social main street.

  • To spread knowledge about the causes of disabilities in neonates and its prevention through genetic counseling and education of expectant mothers.

  • To establish services of community based Rehabilitation.

 

The sole purpose of the Trust is to provide service to handicapped children particularly spastics & mentally retarded.
